Why must a thermal gas mass flow meter used to measure compressed air flow be installed after a dryer?
Since the air contains water vapor, compression by the compressor turns this vapor into water droplets. If the flow rate is measured without using a dryer, these water droplets will affect the accuracy of the flow meter’s measurements. A thermal mass flow meter operates on the principle of heat transfer to measure gas flow, and since water has a high specific heat capacity, it absorbs a large amount of heat from the heating element in such meters, thereby severely affecting their measurement accuracy. Using compressed air that has been dried before measuring flow rate will **reduce the impact of water on the measurement results**.
