Most sewage treatment plants use submersible pumps. The corrosive effect of sewage on these devices reduces their service life, and moreover the quality of submersible pumps varies greatly, which in turn increases their operating costs. Fault: Due to corrosion, the power cable of the submersible pump became damaged and leaked, causing a short circuit; the power cable leaked electricity. The impeller was severely corroded and worn, which led to reduced flow rate as a result of blockages. The motor burned out because it was exposed above the water surface, and its reverse rotation went unnoticed. The impeller can be cleaned and inspected regularly; the power cord (the part that is in water) can be coated with butter, especially at the sealed areas. Stop using the motor once it is above the water surface. Consider using a self-priming pump in place of a submersible pump.
For wastewater treatment areas, it is preferable to use surface-mounted equipment, as it operates stably and is easy to maintain. If that’s not an option, submersible equipment can be used; alternatively, submersible pumps can also be replaced with surface pumps; A better approach is to use a centrifugal pump with a siphon tank; self-priming centrifugal pumps can also be an option, but they are not recommended as they have higher energy consumption and their operation is not very stable.
The self-priming pumps in our company’s wastewater areas have been phased out, and siphon tanks coupled with centrifugal pumps have been used in their place.
