The requirements for backfill soil itself are that expansive soil, plastic soil, as well as soil containing debris and construction waste cannot be used as backfill soil. The compaction coefficient for backfill soil is generally between 0.95 and 0.97, depending on the bearing capacity of the superstructure.
The compaction coefficient is the ratio of the density of the soil sample to its maximum density; the higher this value, the more compact the soil is. Generally, for large-scale earthwork, a value of greater than 0.9 is required; when requirements apply in indoor areas and around buildings, the value ranges from 0.94 to 0.95. For use as a bearing stratum, the value is 0.97, and this value is used for post-construction inspection.

For general site leveling, the compaction coefficient is required to be around 0.9, meaning that the volume decreases by about 10% after compaction. The compaction coefficient is related to factors such as soil type, compaction method, thickness of the compacted layer, and soil moisture content, and is generally determined based on design requirements.
The backfill soil only needs to be compacted once using a bulldozer or an excavator.
