Pharmaceutical wastewater, with a COD value of 9000; its composition is unknown – it is known only to contain various organic solvents. It is likely that granular sludge cannot be formed in this case. The project involves expansion, and UASB was used previously. Can EGSB or IC be used for treating this type of wastewater? If it is to be used, what considerations should be taken into account during design for wastewater that can form granular sludge? Because I’m familiar with some wastewater types that cannot form granular sludge, and IC is also used in such cases, but I don’t know what to pay attention to during design, such as process parameters and so on
We have designed over 20 ICs, some of which are used for chemical wastewater treatment; granular sludge can indeed be formed, though its diameter is relatively small. For wastewater like this, using IC is a good option – at least the investment is low and the setup is simpler.
