Installation of heat exchanger tube box gaskets

When installing the gaskets for the heat exchanger tube boxes, some of these gaskets are very large; to hold them in place, a sealant such as 596 silicone is applied to the flange sealing surfaces, or the gaskets are secured with tape. Which of these two methods is preferable? Are there any other better approaches?
Silicone sealant is better. This is the method we usually use.
There are also those with PTFE tape wrapped around them, and the results are good as well. Previously, applying some butter or lithium-based grease was usually sufficient (this is still the case for small-diameter gaskets), while for large-diameter ones, PTFE tape was used.
It seems to be glue; it’s better as it can improve the sealing performance.
