How is fees charged for individual design work?

Some professions require individuals to undertake design tasks; I’m not sure how to claim design fees or what amount is appropriate For example: architecture, structure, electrical equipment, telecommunications, HVAC, plumbing, etc. (office buildings, multi-purpose buildings).

Is it freelance work? It is generally based on the regular allocation quota. Because for any project, as long as the designs are provided by a designer, responsibility lasts for life once the designs are signed; if only the designs are provided without signing, the fee is slightly lower.

I want to remind the landlord to be cautious about one issue: a friend of mine took on a similar freelance project, also referred to him by another friend; he worked tirelessly and overtime, but in the end only received a small portion of the payment and was left unpaid.
