While reading, I learned that the check valve prevents the pump from running dry. What is the principle behind this?

In my opinion, you are referring to the check valve installed at the pump inlet; when the pump stops operating, there is no suction, and the water remaining in the inlet pipeline and within the pump will flow to lower levels. If there is a check valve, this won’t happen
Mm-hmm, it’s possible, but we haven’t seen that setup on our devices yet; generally, that kind of arrangement is used when the pump is installed at a higher position
