Is it realistic to believe that you will love the work you do? I choose to believe without doubt that, at the same time, everything we love will be proven true. It’s up to us to decide whether to change our job or ourselves. Just like any marriage or long-term relationship, a career or job requires occasional adjustments in order to remain fresh, vibrant, interesting, and appealing. Loving your work will elevate your career to a different level. Whether you are an employee of a company, own your own business, or are an artist, the following stages still seem applicable. The first job is like a new love; it’s always exciting to have your first job. The biggest excitement is having a salary! This is your first significant income, and everything is new. If this job isn’t right for you, you’ll quickly realize it, and you might give it up soon, whether that’s the right decision or not. Get set to soar – after some time, you will have been promoted. If you are moving in the direction you desire and constantly changing, work remains just like your beloved. Strive to climb higher – new challenges help you grow, but greater responsibilities cause you more headaches. At this point, another question might arise, for example: Am I ready to devote the rest of my life to this job? Have I found the path I love? During calm periods, you may still continue to climb; you might face setbacks—but you feel that giving up now is absolutely not an option. You desire to have enough pension, or your financial resources are not sufficient to allow you to quit your job. Loving one’s work may become more difficult to reconcile with the commitments of life. Bequests At any age, you might wonder what you want to leave behind. Games change when you lift your head from your daily busy tasks and imagine creating something that goes beyond your current needs. Whether the thing you create is well-known or something you have never shown to others, this passion continues to grow as its influence spreads. It’s like a married couple looking at each other, realizing they have already accomplished so much together. If they had never met, it would have been impossible for them to witness together or create together. Your job provides you with a platform during the transition phase, allowing you to continue improving yourself. Career after employment: Next, this opportunity will help you fall in love with your work. Try something new, or rekindle your passion to bring enthusiasm to your work. If money is not your top concern, this could be the sweetest phase for you – a time to shed burdens and enjoy yourself to the fullest. Ignoring the stage you are in, finding a job you love requires you to discover who you really are. When you are able to recognize and articulate your position within the bigger picture, you can take control again and clearly see how much contribution you can make toward the best possible outcome. This “global” context could be the department, team, or organization you are part of; your role might also be to help make the world (now or globally) a better place. When you are able to understand yourself clearly and know what you can do in the world, this passion is already fulfilled. To stay true, keep in mind that we too might be knocked to the side by the dark side of work. Power games and policies are like cholesterol in one’s bloodstream. These sources may allow you to experience a rich and wonderful life, but over time they will become a threat to it. When your work becomes a “profession,” it will revive your passion and inspire you to engage in it once again. How will you reunite? Will you be able to develop those early passions into something mature enough to match your determination? Can you keep up with your career? This is what keeps a long-term relationship vibrant. Make sure you work within the framework of “I love my profession,” just as one prunes grapevines continuously to prevent them from withering away. If the passion fades, you must revive it. You must start over, or delve deeper into where you stand on the new path. Integrate into it and grow.
