The inlet alcohol content is generally related to the efficiency of the methanol water cooler, the exchanger outside the tower, the methanol separator, and the inlet separator; When the outlet temperature of the separator is ≤40°C, the methanol content at the inlet of the synthesis tower is generally below 0.5%. Considering economic factors, the lower the alcohol content at the inlet, the better; this led to the development of new types of separators, as traditional separators indeed need to be improved. The method of using a screen in combination with a swirl plate is too inefficient; the lower the levels of impurities such as water content and alcohol content at the inlet of the methanol synthesis tower, the better.
It is best for the temperature to be below 30 degrees after cooling; the separator must be equipped with a mist-trapping and coalescing filter element, which reduces the amount of impurities carried away, thereby lowering the level of impurities in the incoming fluid
30℃ is too low; there’s no need for that – it consumes too much energy. An efficient separator is the better choice
Below 50°C is usually due to wax formation on the condenser; in summer, the high temperature of the circulating water is the main cause. The separation efficiency of the separator is generally above 90%, and a wire mesh can be used for this purpose; for higher requirements, a water wash tower can be employed
