Why must the enclosure of explosion-proof motors be grounded, and why are some that are not grounded not required to have corrective actions taken? Is it specified in any technical standards? Thanks!
Enclosure grounding is a type of protective grounding that must be implemented; it applies not only to explosion-proof motors. If no action is required for correction, it’s likely that the inspection didn’t pay enough attention to this aspect.
Grounding is required for all of them. Reasons for not proposing corrective actions: 1. It may have been overlooked; negligence. 2. Although not grounded separately, the equipment foundation is connected to the grounding bus. 3. The motor is located in different positions.
The casing grounding is protective grounding; it must be connected in all cases

Both explosion-proof grounding and motor operation grounding are necessary; failing to provide such grounding is a violation of regulations. Grounding of explosion-proof motors is intended to eliminate current discharge phenomena caused by electromagnetic induction.
The grounding of the motor housing has nothing to do with explosion protection; it is a protective grounding measure to prevent leakage current from the housing.
Motors use three-phase electricity and all require protective grounding.
