When heating the heat transfer oil for hydrogen production from methanol, is it necessary to heat the oil in the storage tank as well?
The purpose of boiling the heat transfer oil in the system is to heat and remove the light components present in the various equipment, pipes, and the heat transfer oil itself. This prevents excessive vaporization during normal operation of the system, which could cause excessive vibration in the equipment and pipes and lead to damage to them. Generally, the oil storage tank serves as a reservoir for the heat transfer oil in case of emergencies; that is, when the system needs maintenance, the heat transfer oil is drained back into this tank. Most manufacturing companies keep a portion of heat transfer oil in this tank for use as a supplement to the system. Therefore, this oil in the storage tank also needs to be boiled along with the oil in the system during the boiling process.
