Steam air compressors are driven by steam; the pressure of the high-pressure steam is 9.8 MPA, with a steam consumption of 200 tons per hour, while the amount of steam extracted is 160 tons per hour at a pressure of 3.8 MPA. Is it possible to reduce the amount of steam extracted in order to maintain the high-pressure steam pressure, even when there are fluctuations in the steam supply from the boiler, as long as the air compressor can continue to operate properly?

This steam turbine may not have high and medium pressure control valves. In this case, it is only possible to adjust both the feed steam and extraction steam control valves (by reducing their opening) in order to meet the process requirements. Once the governor is adjusted properly, it can meet the requirements.
Reducing pumping can maintain the output power constant.
Reducing the amount of extracted steam will lower the power of the air compressor; it is not advisable to reduce the amount of extracted steam – instead, a control valve should be used to regulate the steam flow before it enters the compressor.
