Explosion at Shandong Chemical Plant: Incident occurs shortly after inspection team leaves; the plant was previously subject to warnings – Sohu Finance!!! http://business.sohu.com/20150824/n419566948.shtml At 20:56 on August 22, 2015, an explosion occurred in a separator at Runxing Chemical in Dongfu Village, Guoli Town, Huantai County, Zibo City, Shandong Province. According to a message on Zibo’s official Weibo account, as of 1:50 on the 23rd, the open flames had been extinguished. The Public Information Office of Huantai County reported that the accident resulted in 1 death and 9 injuries; the deceased was found while cleaning the scene and was a factory worker. The other injured persons have all been taken to hospitals in Zibo City or Huantai County for treatment. At present, the specific cause of the accident is still under investigation. It is generally believed that static storage tanks and similar facilities are prone to major fire accidents. A separator is a device used to handle material flow – how could such a serious accident occur?
It seems that there’s very little coverage of this matter online. . . I can’t find them on any of the major news websites~~~
Theoretically, static equipment should be less prone to accidents, but the root cause of all accidents lies not in the equipment itself but in humans; perhaps it is precisely because people think static equipment is less dangerous that accidents occur more easily. Devices that operate online are actually more dangerous; a single mistake or oversight in operation can lead to serious problems. Chernobyl was the result of an operational accident that caused severe consequences. However, most devices that operate online are equipped with safety mechanisms and interlock systems designed to prevent accidents as much as possible. Even so, it is not possible to completely avoid accidents, so the key issues lie in safety management and a strong sense of responsibility.
