We want to build a distillation tower for propanone and water, but we’ve never seen what a distillation tower looks like. Having heard that there are many experts here, we came specifically to ask for help. First of all, can propanone and water be distilled using an ordinary distillation tower? ? Do we still need to use azeotropic distillation or something like that?
Also, how should the base skirt for the tower be chosen, and what about the wall thickness of the distillation tower? Please help me :(
Of course. There is a significant difference in boiling points between propylene and water; the light components of propylene are obtained from the top of the tower, while the heavy water components come out from the bottom of the tower, so no azeotropic distillation is required.
Propanone and water do not require azeotropic distillation for separation. The wall thickness of the distillation tower is determined based on process requirements, by the equipment specialists using strength calculation software and taking into account the tower’s operational conditions. The skirt height is determined based on a comprehensive consideration of the tower operating pressure and equipment layout.
Separating the two components is easy, and distillation can be carried out easily
For propylene and water distillation, an ultra-gravity distillation column can be used, which occupies less space and enables steady continuous production.
