Our company is planning to replace several pumps soon. The original pumps were installed in an underground pump room, with drainage ditches surrounding the pump foundations; cables were also located in those ditches. The new pumps have different foundation dimensions from those of the old pumps – the foundations for the new pumps are larger, so it’s necessary to create new foundations. But production cannot stop, and there is a risk of accidents during construction. I would like to ask whether it is possible to avoid tearing down the existing foundation entirely and instead build a reinforced concrete platform on top of it to install the pump. I am now looking for ways to ensure a strong connection between the old and new foundations; please suggest some solutions
The existing foundation is demolished to expose some of the rebar; the rebar is then extended and widened by bundling it, after which pouring is carried out again

The base of the pump is simply a rectangular prism; there is no base, and once the edges are cut away, the entire base is exposed. There’s no need to make it that complicated. To avoid digging up the existing foundation, when the diameter of a tower is increased from 2 meters to 3 meters, the tower’s foundation is created by drilling holes in the original foundation base and inserting rebar; what’s crucial is to find a type of adhesive that allows the new rebar to bond firmly with the original foundation. ——There must be such materials and construction techniques, but I can’t recall their names.
The bonding of old and new concrete mainly involves roughening the concrete surface (it is best to expose the rebar), as well as removing any contaminants such as oil on the existing foundation that could interfere with bonding.
Why not change the pump’s base? It would be more convenient and simpler that way; There’s no need to knock down the existing foundation

It’s that anaerobic adhesive; our unit once used it to connect several reinforced concrete columns. When connecting two columns with H-shaped steel beams, expansion bolts were inserted into the four corners of the column tops, and that’s the method you mentioned. Why was this done? The main reason was to add an additional steel platform onto the already constructed reinforced concrete columns, so that new equipment could be placed there.
Hello, OP. By how much is the foundation of the new pump larger than that of the original pump? If the difference is not significant, it’s quite simple to modify the base of a horizontal centrifugal pump, thus avoiding the need to alter the installation foundation.
Use channel steel to make a pump base and adjust the dimensions as needed
