Regarding the startup of shielded pumps, under normal conditions, one pump is in operation while another is on standby, with the two pumps connected in parallel. One pump is running, and another pump is ready to be started for testing. All preparations for starting the shielded pump have been completed. Under normal circumstances, the valve of the minimum reflux line is opened first, while the valve of the outlet line is not opened. After the pump has been running for a while, the outlet valve is then opened. The valve of the minimum return line was not closed. The total outlet flow rate of the two pumps remains constant. I would like to ask: regarding the valves in the minimum return line and the outlet valve, how should these valves be set during pump testing? Could some expert help me with this?
The minimum return line valve ensures the minimum flow rate required by the canned pump, preventing temperature rise of the fluid and insufficient bearing lubrication due to the closure of the main outlet valve, which could lead to accidents. The outlet valve is used for flow control as required by the process. Generally, at the time of purchase, the pump flow rate = process requirement flow rate + minimum flow rate.
