Slag crushers come in vertical and horizontal types; vertical slag crushers are more commonly used in Texaco gasifiers, and their processing capacity is lower compared to horizontal ones. These crushers can operate in both forward and reverse directions to prevent bridging issues above them, and their pressure resistance is higher than that of horizontal slag crushers. Horizontal slag crushers are commonly used in Shell boilers; later on, most coal-fired boilers in China also adopted horizontal types. They have a large processing capacity, and the crusher is equipped with a rotating knife holder as well as movable slides to adjust the gap between the knives. The moving slide has two control methods: manual and electric. Due to the low pressure in the pulverized coal gasifier, the pressure resistance rating of the slag breaker housing is lower than that of the vertical type. Additionally, the hydraulic control systems differ: the vertical type uses a separate plunger pump, while the horizontal type has two plunger pumps that serve as backups for each other.
