I heard in the group discussions that for welding equipment, argon or helium is used for the inner layer while carbon dioxide is used for the outer layer. What types of welding are such devices used for, and what is their welding efficiency like?
In TIG welding, “argon” refers to the fact that the shielding gas is argon; For welding plates with thick thicknesses, high penetration is required; or a mixture of argon and helium is used when increasing the welding speed. Using carbon dioxide as a shielding gas is what we call gas shielded welding; this method is efficient for welding, but the quality of the welds is poor, so it is rarely used in pressure vessels.
MIG welding is primarily used for carburization; initially, it could not be applied to pressure vessels. Later, improvements were made to the process and flux-coated welding wires were used to reduce carbon content, which effectively lowered its level.
