The design pressure of a pipeline is not equal to the maximum pressure that the pipe material can withstand; calculations are carried out during the selection of materials for design purposes. Of course not; the test pressure is generally equal to 1.5 times the design pressure. This is because the design pressure already takes into account a safety factor; it is not the calculated pressure.
So that means it’s okay to use overpressure occasionally, right? I remember one manufacturer saying during a tubing burst test that the pressure resistance of my tubing was higher than the recommended operating pressure value.
