I asked the driver whether to turn on the cool air or the hot air when it suddenly starts to rain heavily on the highway. He answered immediately, and the answer was correct. It reminds me of when I first started driving, over a decade ago, on the highway from NJ to NYC. My wife and I encountered heavy rain; the windows fogged up and it was impossible to see the road. We were in a panic, not knowing whether to turn on the heat or the air conditioning, as the driver’s manual didn’t mention anything about this. Turn on the cool air. The water vapor in hot air blows onto the cold glass, causing frost to form and obscuring visibility; whereas the water vapor in cold air is absorbed by the condenser, remaining relatively dry and preventing frost formation.
With constant air humidity inside the vehicle, the lower the temperature, the higher the relative humidity, making dew formation more likely.
