How to collect samples of free silica in textile factories? How to analyze it?
It is said that powder and residue are collected; before preparing a sample, they are burned and the ash is weighed, after which it is analyzed using the pyrophosphoric acid method. In the highest cases, the free silica content can reach 12% (according to available data). But most grading experts still favor calculating it directly based on cotton dust, with the free silica content in cotton being 3–6%; if anyone knows of other methods, please feel free to share them
First, let’s talk about where silica comes from. Most ores contain silica, especially quartz, which can account for up to 99% of its content. But I have never heard of such a method for detecting silica as mentioned by the original poster; if there is silica in textile factories, it should be present in fly ash. I’m not sure where the original poster got this information from. The above are merely personal opinions and for reference only!

It is an article about cotton; however, recent studies indicate that cotton, wood, and similar materials belong to organic dusts, while only inorganic substances are classified as dust based on their free silica content. Expert, do you think cotton can be treated as cotton dust without the need to analyze its free silica content? The free silica content in the cotton was measured to be below 5%, which is not a significant issue……
