I have activated the self-protection systems; only the main air supply self-protection is in use, while all other self-protection systems are not activated. I would like to know if this issue occurs in other devices as well and what their utilization rates are. I hope everyone can provide information on the utilization status of these four self-protection functions ; 1. Main fan self-protection (main fan shutdown, safe operation of the main fan), activation/2. Feed self-protection, disconnection/3. Two reactors’ self-protection, disconnection. 4. Low main air flow – shut off. Have there been any accidents after resection?
Over 95% of our funds are allocated to self-protection measures; at present, due to clogs in the flow meters, no funds have been allocated for the flow of raw materials! Unit interlock protection is 100% activated!
In principle, they should all be put into use. In practice, their activation depends on the actual conditions of the equipment. Personally, I recommend using them all. If there is concern that certain safety mechanisms might cause shutdowns due to measurement issues or human error, then careful consideration should be given before disabling them. The safety mechanisms were designed to be comprehensive, and surely many of these interlinked safety features were already removed during the project construction phase. If they are not used in actual production and are only there as a formality to satisfy the regulatory authorities, then it’s completely pointless
We also only use the main wind self-protection system; it’s probably because large-scale units are too expensive. Everything else was removed.
The interlocks here are in 100% operation mode; any disconnection must be approved by the plant manager and the instrumentation team, and approval must be obtained before disconnection is allowed!
It is recommended to activate the main air self-protection, the cut-off valve self-protection, and the feed self-protection! The main air low-flow self-protection function can be disabled! As long as the logical design is sound and the instrument measurements are accurate, it is still necessary to put them all into use. If necessary, measures such as three-out-of-two voting and filtering can be applied to the instrument signals, as safety comes first after all.
All the process interlocks for the 2 catalytic units under my responsibility have been put into operation, with an operational rate of 100%. When a fault occurs and it needs to be shut down, the proper procedures must be followed; once the issue is resolved, the units must be brought back online. As long as the logic is correct and the instruments are properly maintained, there should be no issues with activating the interlocks. Given the current circumstances, it is recommended to change our mindset: it is better to experience malfunctions after deployment than to face accountability after an accident occurs due to not using the system.
