A grab-type gantry crane is a lifting device capable of performing cyclic, intermittent movements, and it is widely used. After leaving the factory, a grab gantry crane has a running-in period of about 60 hours. The running-in period is an important step in ensuring the proper operation of cranes, reducing failure rates, and extending their service life. However, due to some users lacking basic knowledge of crane operation or being pressed for deadlines, they completely ignore the special technical requirements during the running-in period of grab gantry cranes. The most common faults that cause cranes to fail while still in the running-in phase are as follows: 1. Rapid wear: The friction surfaces of mechanical components become rough or even uneven due to processes such as machining, assembly, and adjustment. During operation, the uneven surfaces of the parts rub against each other, causing metal debris to be worn off; if this debris is not removed in time, continued friction leads to accelerated wear of the mating surfaces of the parts. If overloaded operation continues, it will cause damage to the components, leading to premature failure. 2. Poor lubrication: Due to the small clearance between the newly assembled components, it is difficult for the lubricant to form a uniform oil film on the friction surfaces, which **reduces the lubrication efficiency and leads to premature abnormal wear of the components. In severe cases, it can also cause scratches on the friction surfaces or galling, leading to failures.
