Reasons for the shutdown of ordinary centrifugal pumps and solutions, along with suggestions.
Pump-related equipment and electrical stations are equipped with interlock devices to protect the equipment. If this happens, it is necessary to check whether there is a short circuit at the motor’s wiring terminals, or if there is a fault inside the motor. Also, check the pump outlet pressure to see if the power is overloaded. Is the mechanical seal cooling of the pump turned on? It can be checked one by one to confirm.
First, check whether there is a fault in the instrument interlock or any electrical problems, as overloading is rare in ordinary centrifugal pumps; Also, check whether there are fluctuations in the current and power of the pump, and investigate the process-related causes ; If everything is fine, then wait to check for mechanical issues with the pump
Let’s talk about the last option first: replacing the motor.
Check each and every interlock issue related to stopping the interlocked pump
Interlocked tripping is mainly caused by high temperature, excessive vibration, and high current. High temperatures can result in a low flow rate of circulating water, high water temperature, or pipe blockages; bearing failures may also occur ; The vibration is high; accordingly, the bearing points were identified and removed for inspection ; A high current can very likely lead to overload and other issues; check each one individually.
Motors are generally equipped with current protection, which causes them to shut down automatically when an excessive current is detected; therefore, it is sufficient to analyze the reasons for such excessive currents. These reasons may include overload, a stuck rotor, changes in the density of the medium, an insufficiently set current value, or a ground fault
Was it overload caused by abnormal operation, or was it the pumping of high-temperature materials by a pump designed for normal temperature conditions that led to the overload?
There are more faults related to the pump’s trip switch, while mechanical faults are fewer
The pump body heats up; sometimes it malfunctions even when it’s not hot, which could be due to overload
1. For those with interlocks, check the interlock items; Find the cause and resolve it ; 2. Those without interlocks mainly experience overload, which causes the motor to stop operating; the cause of the overload needs to be addressed. 3. Electrical issues such as voltage fluctuations, grounding problems, and short circuits
