20-ton water storage tanks are equipped with lightning protection devices; is it necessary to ground such equipment, and are there any standards for this?

It contains water, so why is it necessary to provide lightning protection and grounding?
Grounding is probably not necessary; water is not a flammable or explosive substance, so even in the event of a lightning strike, no danger will arise
Since there are lightning protection devices, why not ground it? Grounding doesn’t cost much – a few flat wires are enough to do it. If a lightning strike breaks the storage tank, you still have to pay to replace it, resulting in even greater losses. Furthermore, it is possible that the pipes of the water storage tank are connected to flammable and explosive pipes and equipment, which could damage other devices as well.
How large can a 20T storage tank be, and what about lightning protection?
