There is a tall tower with a reflux rate of 7 M3/h and a drawoff rate of 250 L/h. According to the reflux formula, its reflux ratio is much greater than 1. Why is this?
The reflux ratio determined based on the separation requirements seems normal as well.
What about full reflux, where only the vapor phase is collected and the liquid phase is not? At this point, the reflux ratio is the ratio of the reflux volume to the feed rate of the tower.
It’s quite normal – there is a low content of light components in the feed, and the purity required at the top of the tower is high; how else can the reflux ratio be kept low? Our light removal reflux ratio is over 100.
Generally, the higher the required purity, the greater the reflux ratio; this reflux ratio is still considered normal, just a bit higher than average
It is likely related to the quality requirements of the product obtained from the top of the tower; a high reflux ratio is also normal
Is there any problem if the reflux ratio is greater than 1? Many of them are greater than 1
This is presumably the result of optimizing operating costs and capital investment costs. If the reflux ratio is reduced, the height of the tower will inevitably increase; it’s necessary to determine which option is cheaper
A high reflux ratio results in a high quality of the product obtained at the top of the tower
