Can a differential pressure transmitter measure the pressure at two pressure tapping points independently?
Generally speaking, it’s not possible; however, there are now electronic differential pressure transmitters that can do this. I know that E+H has a product of this type, and the model number seems to be FMD72
It is not possible to measure the pressure at two points individually, but it is possible to measure the pressure difference between two pressure sampling points.
A differential pressure transmitter is used to measure differential pressure; if it is necessary to measure the pressure at 2 points, simply install 2 pressure transmitters.
A certain amount of pressure can be measured, especially low pressures; differential pressure is usually chosen for such measurements.
Rosemount’s Electronic Remote Transmission (ERS) system works on the principle of using two transmitters for separate measurements – one as the primary transmitter and the other as a secondary one – with the primary transmitter calculating the differential pressure. It can also output the pressure of a single gauge, as well as the differential pressure, but it cannot output the pressures of two gauges at the same time. The instrument itself supports multiple outputs; to output the pressure from two devices simultaneously, an additional converter with multiple output capabilities is required.
Why use it to measure two? Let’s just say that even if two are measured, how do you make it transmit the signal over a long distance? Which pressure value should be transmitted remotely? Would another one be willing? The electronic differential pressure transmitter mentioned above is actually designed specifically for measuring liquid levels. To avoid an excessive distance between the upper and lower flanges, it is essentially a combination of two pressure transmitters; one of them receives the electrical signal from the other and then calculates the difference! Calculate the differential pressure value and convert it to liquid level! ……Its full name is an electronic remote transmission level difference gauge. Don’t you think a differential pressure gauge that measures the difference between just two pressures is unnecessary? There might be some too!
