Certain restrictions apply; for example, if the location of COLUMN feeds, draws, heaters or coolers is used as variables within the OPTIMIZER, the rate and/or heat duty cannot also be used. What does this sentence mean? It’s a bit messy and not very clear.
In other words, if the feed position of the tower, the side-stream extraction position, and the heaters/coolers are already specified as variables in the optimizer, then flow rate and/or heat load cannot be used as variables in the optimizer. Note: The heater/cooler refers to the increase or decrease in heat transfer to the counterflow stream in the middle section of the tower or at a certain tray level.
