For flowmeters such as electromagnetic flowmeters, vortex flowmeters, and epicyclic gear flowmeters, it is best not to install bypass valve assemblies in cases where trade settlements are involved, to avoid trade disputes.
Don’t include electromagnetic flowmeters and vortex flowmeters; I’ve never used elliptical gear flowmeters.
It refers to the valve assembly connected to the flow meter; this is mainly necessary for differential pressure flow meters, while it is generally not required for other types of flow meters.
It’s actually a bypass for the flow meter.
So aside from places where trade settlement and flow data requirements are extremely precise and objective, flow meters of other types can be installed there.
Well, there must be standards for that. Quality flowmeters are equipped with bypasses not because online calibration isn’t possible
Orifice flow meter, nozzle flow meter, Venturi flow meter, average velocity tube flow meter, wedge flow meter
The standard does not specify whether it should be added or not; it is up to the user to decide. If the instrument can be shut down for repair in case of a fault, it is not necessary to add it; whereas in cases where shutdown is not possible, it generally needs to be added. Flow meters generally cannot be added for trade settlement.
Why is a valve bank bypass needed for mass flow meters? I didn’t understand; I thought the question was about flow measurement instruments that use differential pressure, such as orifice plates and Venturi tubes. . .
I agree with this view; in previous projects, bypasses were installed on all flow meters. This not only takes up space and makes maintenance difficult, but it also incurs considerable costs. Later, in the EPCC projects we worked on, the above principles were applied: we considered the importance of the instruments within the process equipment, and then determined whether it was possible to shut down the system for maintenance. For those cases where shutdown was not feasible, bypass circuits were installed, while for those where shutdown was possible, no bypass circuits were needed.
