Our plant’s liquid nitrogen storage tank has a capacity of 1,000 cubic meters. After it was put into use, it was found that the evaporation rate remained relatively stable at 2T per day; in other words, if 700T of material is stored, it will evaporate completely within just over 300 days if not used. During this period, measures were taken to minimize the evaporation rate, including recharging with pearlescent sand and modifying the air supply for the interlayer protector, but the effects were still not significant. I would like to ask everyone, is such a high evaporation rate normal? If it’s not working properly, where else should we check? What are the corresponding solutions? Thank you so much!
What is the evaporation rate specified for the tank design? Our liquid nitrogen storage tanks also have the problem of high evaporation rates. Insufficient subcooling of liquid nitrogen is one aspect; another factor is the quality of the insulation effect of the storage tank.
By the way, is your liquid nitrogen under cooling after leaving the tower? Insufficient supercooling can also lead to increased evaporation losses in storage tanks~~
Liquid nitrogen itself has a low temperature, and there are many reasons that can affect the increase in evaporation rate, such as insufficient perlite, excessive moisture content in the perlite, the ambient temperature, the temperature of the liquid nitrogen (whether it is undercooled), and other associated factors.
The subcooling is insufficient, and the evaporation rate is also very high~~
Is it possible that there are leaks in the gas phase space? ?
If there are leaks, that would be a problem; electrical leakage in the meteorological system causes frost to form on the outer panels.
First, frost will form on the walls of the outer container, and in some cases ice even forms~~ Additionally, the temperature of the bottom plate will drop~~
What is the usual pressure level you maintain in your storage tank? What should be the pressure and flow rate of the interlayer purge gas?
Gas seals are generally not purged; they are basically self-regulating valves that operate autonomously to maintain a constant pressure~~
