Why is it generally necessary to measure the pressure difference between the bottom and top of various towers used in processes, such as scrubbing packed towers? What is its function?

In industrial applications, certain fluids can easily clog the trays or downcomers of the tower, while other fluids tend to form bubbles, leading to flooding of the tower and affecting its proper operation as well as the quality of the product. All such situations result in an increase in the pressure drop across the tower.
They usually serve a supervisory role. There is supervision of steam flow fluctuations, supervision of whether the trays are clogged, and so on.
In simple terms, it is to monitor the operating condition of the tower, so as to detect any abnormalities that may occur in it, such as liquid flooding or material crystallization, etc
