As the title suggests, I work in the instrumentation field at a power plant. Is there anyone else who, like me, has come to the instrumentation area of Haichuan Chemical to learn*? Besides Polaris Power, which other forums are there for power plant instrumentation? I think the instruments are more or less the same; the difference lies only in the manufacturing quality. The professional name is thermal instrumentation, and it has many differences compared to chemical process instrumentation.
Most of them work; the principle is the same.
Different industries use different terms for the instrumentation field. I have worked with chemical process instruments, thermal process instruments, and oil production instruments; it’s basically all the same type of equipment. If there is any difference, it lies in the different process flows and the varying levels of complexity of the instruments. Personal opinion, for reference only.
I’ve worked in so many industries! I truly admire it! There must be a lot of experience accumulated! I think no matter what type of job it is, as long as one has a good mentor to guide them and puts in enough effort, they can not only become experts but at the very least be competent in their job! It’s sad; I’ve never had a mentor, and I’m not from an electrical engineering background either
I am currently working with oil production instrumentation, and I have two apprentices; one has a degree in petroleum engineering while the other has a degree in computer science. The two apprentices represent two extremes: the one in petroleum engineering is skilled at physical tasks, hardworking, and gets a lot of work done quickly, but his work is rough and he doesn’t like to use his brain; he’s quite simple-minded, and will almost give up if something isn’t visible to him ； In computer science, one needs to be skillful, meticulous, inclined to ponder things, and have a quiet personality. I’ve been using it for two years now, and in my opinion there isn’t much difference between the two; the one for computers is slightly better, as the person in question is more detail-oriented. I’m willing to teach him certain tasks related to systems work, but I’m not ready to teach him those related to petroleum engineering. In petroleum engineering, hard work can make up for lack of talent, I guess. So overall, after two years, the skills of the two are roughly on par. Don’t worry about not having a good teacher; will a good teacher definitely teach you everything? ； Don’t worry about not being from the same field; both of my apprentices are from the instrumentation field, and I myself didn’t graduate from that field either. Without him, one has to rely on oneself, be bold and careful, and read more books. With a good master, all you need to do is use your brain a little less. Wish you success in your work.
