What causes the dishing of the internal components in the multi-stage quench reactor used for the gas-phase dehydration of methanol to produce dimethyl ether? During normal production, a large temperature difference was observed between the left and right sides of the reactor. During major maintenance, indentations were found when the internal components were removed. Does anyone who is aware of this situation know anything about it?
I have only seen cases where the spontaneous combustion of ferrous sulfide caused localized overheating of the equipment casing, leading to deformation of the equipment.
With liquefied gas being so cheap these days, are your dimethyl ether plants still running? What’s the profit margin?
The strength might not be sufficient during calculation
The pressure difference is too large, resulting in too fast rates of pressure increase and decrease.
“When production is in progress, if a large temperature difference is observed between the left and right sides of the reactor, it may indicate flow imbalances inside the reactor, high pressure differences, overheating, and long-term damage to the internal components. (Was any coking or carbon buildup detected during removal? This is usually the case with hydrogenation.)
