Our plant is newly built, and its units include atmospheric and vacuum distillation as well as delayed coking. There are many hot oil pumps involved. Initially, insulation material was used to insulate the pump bodies, but now that insulation material has fallen off. I would like to ask whether there are any standards regarding the insulation of hot oil pumps, and whether insulation is indeed necessary. If I use rare earths for insulation, will that work??? I’d appreciate some advice
Is a hot oil pump a centrifugal hot oil pump? Generally, hot oil pumps are made of cast steel and can withstand temperatures of up to 350 degrees. Our hot oil pumps usually do not require insulation; insulation for the pipes is sufficient. Since the temperature of these pumps is already very high, adding additional insulation serves little purpose
If composite silicate mortar is used, it should be reinforced with metal mesh.

I’m not aware of the standards for insulation, but what people often refer to as \"insulation for heat protection\" is necessary first and foremost for safety reasons; if someone gets burned or if light oil leaks onto the pump, it can lead to safety accidents. Secondly, if the heat oil pump’s pump head is not insulated, how can it meet the requirements for thermal standby? At the same time, heat loss occurs, which is not conducive to energy conservation. For all areas where I believe heat insulation is necessary, we typically use metal wire mesh to reinforce the pump body, with a 100 MM thick layer of silicate dry powder applied on the surface.
