Our company’s CO2 storage tank needs to be inspected by opening it. The material of the tank is 16MNDR, and there is approximately 10 tons of CO2 inside the tank. The CO2 needs to be removed from the tank, but this process causes the pressure inside the tank to drop continuously. According to the relationship between pressure and temperature, lower pressure corresponds to lower temperatures. The low-temperature tolerance for this material is -40 degrees Celsius. I am concerned that as the pressure drops during the discharge process and the temperature becomes too low, cracks may occur in the tank, leading to accidents. However, according to the explanations provided by the technical staff from the design manufacturers and equipment suppliers, there is some principle related to low temperature and low pressure that ensures no problems occur in the equipment under low-temperature conditions. I would like to ask the experts: 1. Is there any problem with this material under the conditions described above, and are there any ways to manipulate its value by emptying it out?

That’s not the most important thing; what’s important is that when the pressure drops to a certain level, the carbon dioxide in the storage tank turns into dry ice. It is only possible to release pressure while increasing it, in order to maintain the pressure inside the storage tank
