In high school, colleges seemed like places that were full of allure and excitement, but in reality, my college days passed by in the blink of an eye; there wasn’t even time to reflect on them. 1. When I went to register as a freshman, since it was a long distance from home, I decided to set off early. As a result, I was the first to arrive in our dormitory. There were six of us in the dorm: the leader, the second member, and the third were all from Shaanxi; the fourth was from Shandong; I was the fifth member, and the sixth member was also from Shandong. At first, I couldn’t understand a word of what those three said. The sixth member disappeared on his first day there; apparently, his girlfriend came with him to school. At that time, I thought to myself, why don’t I have such luck? As a result, on the first day it was just the five of us there; we didn’t talk late into the night – since we weren’t familiar with each other, we went to bed right away. Soon after that, military training began, and it was so exhausting that no one had any energy left. Across from the dormitory was the girls’ dormitory building; when going back to take a shower, everyone had to use a basin to cover their buttocks. Freshman year consisted mainly of attending classes and eating. 2. The thing that stood out the most during my sophomore year was that everyone bought a computer. At that time, no one had much money, so they opted for desktop computers with large monitors. University dormitories had power restrictions, and I, as the vice president of the student council, gave some cigarettes to the dorm supervisor. My senior brother got himself connected to a power supply that provided continuous power 24/7. As a result, only my senior brother went to classes every day; the other five of us played almost every game available, such as Dota, True 3, Chenghai, CS, and various online games. Our routine changed from classroom – cafeteria – dormitory to simply cafeteria – dormitory, and later, with the arrival of food delivery services, it became dormitory – dormitory. 3. In our junior year, the eldest brother wanted to take the postgraduate entrance exam; the fourth brother opened a clothing store at school, while the sixth brother spent all his time with his wife. In the end, the second brother, the third brother, and I continued with our gaming adventures. It was the World Cup that year, and since our dormitory had electricity, everyone gathered there to watch the football matches. Several of us watched together on one screen. To encourage our enthusiasm for watching the World Cup, the dormitory supervisor decided not to cut off the power during that period. It was just the six of us who bought beer, peanuts, chicken feet, and duck necks, then gathered around the computer to watch the matches. Since the internet speed varied from dormitory to dormitory, goals were scored at different times. As soon as the other dormitories started cheering because a goal had been scored, if we hadn’t seen it yet, the eldest brother would open the door and say “HNDY.” That was the only truly special memory from our junior year. 4. Senior year arrived quickly. I was the first person in my dormitory to start working. Whenever the weekend came, I would go back to the dormitory and invite a few guys from other dormitories to go out and eat some snacks and drink some alcohol. Throughout senior year, we tried almost all the snacks available in the city where we studied. The time for parting came soon; I was the second person in my dormitory to leave. Everyone cried when I went away. The leader was admitted to graduate school, the second and third members went back to work in Shaanxi, the fourth and sixth members returned to their hometowns to work, and I signed a contract with the company I work for now. Postscript: Among the people in the dormitory, aside from me and Lao San, everyone else was married and had children. I attended each of their weddings. As we all started working, we moved far apart, but I still miss those days in college greatly – no scheming, no pursuit of fame or career success; all that existed was brotherhood. How are you all, my brothers?
Where there are conflicts of interest, there is scheming. During your student days, especially when it comes to roommates, you’ll find that those who sit with you and take classes together are mostly your roommates ; Those who go out for meals and drinks with you are still your roommates ; The person with whom I played games non-stop, who ate instant noodles together with me – that’s my roommate after all~~~~ A friendship like this might never exist again in the future.
