Cladding and Heat Treatment 1: How to control the cladding process? What is the role of surfacing heat treatment? How to choose heat treatment processes such as temperature and time?
These are all welding parameters, which are generally guided by welding procedure qualification. Cladding heat treatment is generally stress-relief heat treatment. The temperature is generally determined by the heat treatment process based on the material.
How to select and verify the process parameters for stress relief?
There are many discussions on the heat treatment of surfacing in forums; most of them involve heat treatment after applying a surfacing transition layer, but there are also cases where no heat treatment is carried out and no problems arise in use. I believe the key factors are the thickness of the base steel plate and the operating conditions. If the base plate is thin, the deformation caused by surfacing is significant, and if forced deformation occurs, heat treatment is necessary. If the thickness is sufficient to resist deformation, then it’s likely fine whether heat treatment is applied or not. After all, there is still a period of time during use during which stress can be relieved through aging.
