For one of our projects, which involves pumps for loading gasoline and diesel onto ships, the manufacturer said that circulating water was required; however, they said they could still carry out the work even when we indicated that we couldn’t provide such water. I don’t know; what’s the difference between pumps with recirculating water and those without it
Circulating water is used to cool the primary seals, or to cool the bearing housings of high-speed pump gearboxes. These can be omitted for pumps used with media at room temperature, or the pump model can be changed.
If it cannot be provided, then modification is the only option; or air cooling and other methods can also be used – there’s no need to worry too much
It depends on what the circulating water is used for; in the case of a canned pump, cooling is provided via its jacket. Without cooling water, the stator coils are prone to burning out, leading to stator grounding. If it is used to cool the bearing oil tank, you know, the temperature of rolling bearings can only reach around seventy degrees at most; without cooling, this will affect the lifespan of the bearings. And this is even more true when it is used to lubricate mechanical seals
If the pump has to operate for a long time at high capacity, it’s better to use a circulating water system; otherwise, the repair costs will be even higher
Generally, circulating water is used to cool mechanical seals or lubricating oil. For mechanical seals, different types can be chosen; for example, Plan 11 cooling can be utilized. If lubricant cooling is required, air cooling can be used. For users, it’s mainly the price difference. In terms of performance, there is generally no significant impact.
I think diesel and gasoline materials don’t need cooling water, as they are at room temperature. I just don’t know why the manufacturer would do that.
There are various cooling methods such as water cooling and air cooling; the choice depends on the site conditions, with only differences in cost.
Circulating water is mainly used in the sealing and bearing housing areas; a pump for normal-temperature media may not be necessary. PLAN11 is used for sealing, and the loading pump operates intermittently for short periods of time.
