This post was last edited by ylb913 on 2015-10-15 06:16. We have encountered a situation in which severe water carryover occurred in the side lines, resulting in a **decrease in the processing capacity of the stripping tower.
In the early stage when the trays are blocked by impurities such as coke powder, the gas resistance inside the tower increases, the pressure difference across the tower rises, the gas-liquid mass transfer efficiency declines, the efficiency of the trays decreases, the purified water fails to meet standards, and the levels of nitrogen and ammonia increase. When the blockage is severe, an air barrier is formed in the tower, preventing the liquid phase from flowing downward smoothly. This results in large fluctuations in the liquid level at the bottom of the tower, which may lead to liquid carrying over into the side streams, the condenser becoming full, and disruptions in the stripping process.
I hope replacing the tray can solve the problem. Our company has carried out many modifications for customers in this industry, and the situation is similar to yours. If you need assistance, please contact me at 18802296570, Manager Wang.
In our company’s plant area, where ammonia is not extracted through side lines, we have also encountered this issue; in the early stages of tray blockage, the obvious consequence is that the purified water does not meet the required standards. When the blockage is severe, the tower is flushed; a gas barrier forms inside the tower, preventing the liquid phase from flowing smoothly. This results in large fluctuations in the liquid level at the bottom of the tower, and the stripping process becomes difficult to control. As a solution, the tray plates are removed and washed using high-pressure water guns, targeting the tray plates, liquid collection tanks, and tower walls – but be sure to label the tray plates.
By modifying the existing tray internals and replacing them with AZKD anti-clogging tray plates, the maintenance cycle can be doubled, while good operating parameters are still maintained until the end of the plant’s operation :)
The main phenomenon is that if the blockage is severe, the liquid cannot flow down at all, resulting in a situation where the three-section system is filled with liquid. If the blockage is moderate, there will be large fluctuations in liquid level, making it difficult to control, and severe liquid accumulation in the three zones.
I hope replacing the trays will solve the problem. Our company has carried out many modifications for customers in this industry, and the situation is similar to yours. If you need assistance, please contact me at 13702159086, Manager Wang.
The most direct sign of tray blockage is that the liquid cannot flow downward, and all of it ends up in the three-way system. Of course, it also depends on the location of the blockage; if it is below the side line, it will result in a three-phase liquid full condition, while if it is above the side line, tower flooding will occur. We have encountered issues before with blockages below the side line; basically, the liquid couldn’t flow downward and ended up going directly into the third-stage system, which disrupted the operation of the entire stripping tower.
