Our plant’s chlorine liquefier uses a horizontal shell-and-tube cooler, with chlorine flowing through the tube side and frozen calcium chloride brine flowing through the shell side. The biggest concern at present is the leakage of calcium chloride solution into the liquid chlorine system (chlorine pressure: 0.14 ~ 0.17 MPa); The pressure of calcium chloride is <0.15 MPa, with water supply under control. I’m not sure what the signs would be if chlorine leaks into the calcium chloride solution or if the calcium chloride solution leaks into chlorine, in order to take preventive measures. The pressure difference between the two is not significant, which facilitates the identification of problems. Chlorine dissolves in calcium chloride solution, and the final reaction takes place in the calcium chloride storage tank. Chlorine has a distinct odor, and even a slight scent can be detected, allowing for quick detection of leaks in the heat exchanger.

Tests show that pH is not suitable, but free chlorine can be measured. We plan to install an online ORP meter; of course, the process might be changed in the future
