How to deal with a drop in the inlet pressure of the synthesis tower?
(1) A sudden decrease in the amount of fresh gas will cause a drop in the pressure at the inlet of the synthesis tower, mainly due to a compressor failure that leads to its shutdown. Solution: Quickly mobilize resources to start the backup compressor and restore air supply as soon as possible. At the same time, the operator of the synthesis tower should pay close attention to the tower temperature; before the compressor resumes normal gas supply, the circulation rate of the synthesis tower should be reduced accordingly, and the flow rates in the main and auxiliary lines adjusted to stabilize the reaction temperature in the synthesis tower. (2) Loss of control over the liquid level in the crude methanol separator, which leads to gas leakage, can also cause a drop in the pressure at the inlet of the synthesis tower. The solution is to reduce or temporarily close the discharge valve of the separator in order to maintain a normal liquid level and prevent gas leakage; meanwhile, the operators of the synthesis tower should closely monitor the temperature of the tower, controlling it by adjusting the flow rates of the main and auxiliary streams or by reducing the circulation volume. (3) Damage to the equipment or pipelines in the compression section or synthesis section, which leads to leaks, can also cause a drop in the pressure at the inlet of the synthesis tower. The solution is to have maintenance personnel carry out emergency repairs; if the damaged equipment or pipelines cannot be used to cut off the gas supply, the plant must be shut down for repairs. (4) Sometimes the inlet pressure of the synthesis tower decreases slowly. Solution: Check whether there are any faults with the gas valves and pistons of the operating compressor, look for any leaks in the system, and verify whether the pressure gauge is malfunctioning.
