The function of the sealing grooves for chlorine and hydrogen is similar to that of a water seal; the pressure at which the water seal fails corresponds to the maximum allowable pressure for chlorine and hydrogen, as any pressure above this level will cause leakage through the water seal. The pressure difference between the chlorine water seal and the hydrogen water seal at break-seal, as well as the pressure difference in the electrolyzer.
