The data provided are as follows: gas flow rate of 343,332 Nm³/h, outlet pipe diameter of 24 inches, pressure of 5.46 MPa (gauge pressure), temperature of 433°C. Calculations using software yield a flow velocity of 7.16 m/s; I’m not sure if this is correct. What is the outlet flow velocity at your facility?
I think there might be a problem with your calculation; it should be 9 m/s
The data provided is incomplete; one needs to know the composition in order to determine the volumetric flow rate, and from that, calculate the flow velocity. It’s impossible to determine the flow rate without the marked value.
You can just do the calculation by yourself by using the formula. The main thing to note is that 24 inches is the engineering diameter, and the inner diameter needs to be adjusted. Anyone who uses the formula will get the same result
In engineering calculations, it is generally sufficient to simply ensure that the flow velocity remains within a reasonable range; there is no real need for high precision, unless very strict requirements are imposed on the pressure drop in the pipes. For an exact calculation, one can refer to the physical property parameters of the gas to perform a precise computation; ordinary calculations generally do not result in significant deviations.
