Hello everyone, I have a question: after the pipeline pressure test (hydrostatic test) is successful and it is confirmed that the strength of the welds is satisfactory, is it still necessary to check the welds again during the pipeline leak test? Personally, I don’t think it’s necessary; if the hydraulic test works under high pressure, it should work fine under low pressure in the integrity test as well, right? Is that the right way to think about it? Please provide a solution.

I think your idea is correct, but there are also situations where pressure testing isn’t possible for every weld joint. Of course, for pipes that have already undergone pressure testing, the main purpose of the leak test is still to check the sealing condition of those parts such as gaskets and threads that have not been tested under pressure.
Strength testing (hydrostatic testing) is used to examine the strength of the welds; valves are not involved in this testing. Leakage tests are used to check the sealing performance of flanges.

If the medium is a liquid, the strength test and the leak test can be carried out together; but when the medium is a gas, the leak test cannot replace that done with liquids, as the fact that there is no leakage under water pressure does not mean that there will be no leakage with gases. For some media with extremely high hazard levels, it is also necessary to conduct leak tests using gases. The two are completely different – you’ll understand this after doing more of these tests
