In our production process, activated carbon is used for the adsorption and separation of lubricating oil. Activated carbon is itself a desiccant; by absorbing moisture from the air, it can cause the dew point to become unacceptable. Try dehydration with superheated dry steam
Activated carbon has specified moisture content requirements upon leaving the factory; generally, the moisture content of the carbon right after production is low, being less than 2%. As the storage time increases, the impact of storage conditions on moisture content rises; hot air drying can be used for drying.
Using nitrogen or instrument air (at atmospheric pressure with a dew point of -40°C) for displacement allows for better heating of the gas supply; the expansion method (pressurization and release) or pressure reduction (using vacuum pumps) can be employed to improve the efficiency of this displacement process
Activated carbon itself has specific requirements regarding moisture content; under normal conditions, this level should be below 5%, with the exception of impregnated carbon. Drying is not required before normal loading.
