Currently, there are approximately 60 coal (methanol) to olefins projects in China that are either in operation, undergoing trial operations, under construction, in the preliminary planning stage, or just planned. Yajia Consulting has conducted in-depth analyses of each project’s owner’s capabilities, approval progress, construction status, downstream plans, and available resources. It was found that 53 of these projects have been completed or are likely to be completed within the next time frame, resulting in an annual production capacity of 28.6 million tons of olefins from coal (methanol) by 2020. Of this, the polyethylene production capacity is 8 million tons per year, while the polypropylene production capacity is 12.61 million tons per year; PE and PP account for 72.1% of the total olefin production capacity.
