Questions regarding the selection of stainless steel pressure gauges

I used to work in engineering, and I’ve just switched to equipment management. The people under me submit requests for pressure gauges, and all of them are made of stainless steel; no one requests ordinary pressure gauges. We work with methanol and olefins, and it’s not necessary to use stainless steel for these applications. I know that stainless steel is resistant to contamination, hydrogen, and chemical corrosion, but I’m not familiar with the other advantages. I want to know what the requirements are for choosing stainless steel pressure gauges When is it necessary to use stainless steel pressure gauges? There are also the copper connectors used in ordinary pressure gauges – in what situations cannot they be used? Besides ammonia, to which other substances is copper sensitive?
In fact, the choice of material is not only related to corrosion issues but also to stability. Ordinary pressure gauges tend to wear out over time, which can lead to problems with their readings; they thus need to be replaced, calibrated, or repaired. Moreover, they are not very suitable for use in high-temperature environments, especially regarding the elastic elements and the welding points of the joints
The liquid-contacting parts of stainless steel pressure gauges are all made of stainless steel, which is much less susceptible to corrosion compared to copper alloys, and it also has a wider range of corrosion resistance. The welding parts are joined using TIG welding, giving them good temperature resistance as well. Of course, for many manufacturers, ordinary materials are sufficient for the working conditions involved, which saves trouble in the long term; yet they still opt for stainless steel in all cases.
