A new sewage treatment plant is being built; the system includes a Fenton tank. The plant is designed to handle 3,000 cubic meters of wastewater. The sludge discharge pumps are submersible pumps, as are the siphon sludge scrapers. The submersible pumps used for sludge discharge have a power rating of 4 kilowatts, can handle 50 cubic meters of wastewater per unit time, and have a head capacity of 14 meters. The process involves pumping sludge from the bottom of the sludge well in the flocculation and sedimentation tank. The tank is 2 meters underground and 3.5 meters above ground level; the outlet of the pump is installed at a depth of 1 meter from the bottom of the tank. The entire sludge discharge pipeline, with a diameter of 150 millimeters, is buried underground and runs therefrom to the sludge thickening tank, a distance of about 120 meters. Additionally, this pipeline must emerge from underground and go above the thickening tank, with the sludge entering through that area; the thickening tank is 3 meters high. Will the sludge discharge get blocked if it operates intermittently, and is the pump suitable? Will replacing it with a screw pump solve the clogging problem in the future? How should one choose a model? If the clogging problem is resolved, would it be feasible to use air from the aeration tank to blow through the outlet valve of the pump after each use? The outlet pressure of the Roots blower is 58 kPa; still, water is used to flush the pipes. What are your thoughts?
If it operates intermittently, the probability of blockage is very high; The fan’s pressure head is too low; it’s best to use compressed air for reverse blowing.
As a supplementary note, it is best not to bury the pipes; if they get clogged, how can they be cleaned? For pipes that are prone to blockages, it is advisable to place them in pipe racks, connecting them with flanges every 20-30 meters, which also makes it easier to clear any blockages.
