When starting the machine and steam is introduced, since the turbine’s speed is low and it has not yet reached the dynamic balance point, it is possible to switch the vibration interlock to manual mode or temporarily disable it. Once the speed increases further and dynamic balance is achieved, with vibration levels dropping below the value that triggers shutdown, the vibration interlock can be reactivated. During this period, it is important to closely monitor the turbine’s vibration levels; if any abnormalities are detected, the machine should be stopped immediately.
When turning the shaft manually in a discontinuous manner, significant vibration will inevitably trigger an alarm; there’s no need to worry about this. However, manual rotation should not be carried out for long periods to avoid wear of the shaft bearings! Because no oil film is formed between the bearing shell and the shaft during shaft turning.
