What instruments are used for the online monitoring of the composition of the crude syngas containing tar that is produced after the gasification process? For compositional analysis, online chromatography should be used to analyze carbon monoxide, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen, etc., in the syngas. For hydrogen sulfide and carbonyl sulfide, analysis is carried out using chromatography equipped with an FPD detector. For moisture, a dedicated air-water analyzer is used. If an online mass spectrometer is used, most of the aforementioned components can be analyzed simultaneously and quickly. Additionally, the difficulty and key aspect in the analysis of syngas lie in sample pretreatment, as it is necessary to remove tar, dust, and moisture. The proper functioning of the analyzer depends on the design and manufacturing expertise of the sample pretreatment system. Moreover, the sampling points require special samplers capable of automatically or manually removing tar. Such systems should be left to experienced integrators or instrument manufacturers to provide solutions. Those who claim that this or that can be done with just one or two sentences are basically amateurs.
